Obama's Health care will make the nation go bankrupt, I think it is right for health care to be provided to all that cannot afford it. We all pay taxes so we all pay for health care. So what's the big deal? Why can't the United States of America make more money just for health care? There are so many questions about health care and why America is in such a debt, it gives me a headache because I have healthcare covered by the government but sometimes I feel likes it's unfair that I get free health care but people who are sturuggling more than my family is doesn't.

The government is controlled by power. When everyone is giving power then everyone feels the need to jump in and act as if they know what they are doing and what should be done. In these articles people state their opinions and the problems but noone states specific simple reasons to help the debt we are in. What should we do? Cutting off our health care or not giving people it will not helo the debt we are in. There will still be problems! As of right now there are being budgets cut from school and police departments, because what we need are schools and police departments. Reading these articles make my brain think about simple things that could be changed to stop the necessary cuting. I feel like after hearing both sides of the arguement i realize that there is so much more to it than just the side I want to hear. For example in article 4 Joel A. Harrison states "By any measure, the United States spends an enormous amount of money on health care. Here are a few of those measures. In 2006, U.S. health care spending exceeded 16% of the nation’s GDP. To put U.S. spending into perspective: the United States spent 15.3% of GDP on health care in 2004, while Canada spent 9.9%, France 10.7%, Germany 10.9%, Sweden 9.1%, and the United Kingdom 8.7%. Or consider per capita spending: the United States spent $6,037 per person in 2004, compared to Canada at $3,161, France at $3,191, Germany at $3,169, and the U.K. at $2,560."

It is obvious that the U.S. spends a lot of money but the point is what are these people doing to help our problem?

Blog #16

After reading these articles, it has changed how I looked at the world: Nothing is FREE! This true in many cases, because there are things yu have to do to recieve the things that are free. There is paperwork and so much one would have to do to even qualify for things you may need such as healthcare. America I feel sometimes is so focused on this "need" of money that we overlook people who actually can't do for themselves. Or they can do for themselves but just can't do as much, for example I have insurance that covers a lot and I don't have to pay anything, but if I didn't then it would be impossible for me to pay for it because I have a single mother and she no longer works so there would be no possible way for me and my family to afford the medical expenses, I think sometimes that people who have money and have good insurance then they think insurance isn't good just because they can afford it. But even though I do have insurance I'm grateful because I know if I didn't have it then it would be a totally different situation.

In the first article I think that he obviously is like every other American that has the same problem because it's either living on the streets because you can't afford health care or dying. Which do you want do participate in?

Health Care has been a hassle for many years because the government wants to keep health care and keep it running on the service and funds it is now, but then some think that the government should cut the funds to a more reasonable price. Many people who recieve health care from the government have to pay little or no coat for times when they need dental of medical help. Some people get health care from the government, some pay it out of pocket(FULL cost) and some get it at work. It's hard to get health care because for example who are immigrants and stuff they can't afford it and don't want to be deported so they don't go to the doctors. There are many cases dealing with health care. There are health care services that apply to certain people, like seniors people with dissabilities, families with children or employers. It could apply to people who have certain problems that others don't and I believe tat why thr government always has different opinions because I might have cancer but someone else might and we have to go by the government's health care that they give to us and it becomes tough for them.


PART TWO BLOG!

1. I think a compelling character is someone with a desire, specific description and someone who goes through conflicts and seeks solutions but has to go through a series of problems so he/she can find a way to end what they need to.

2. I think an interesting plot is one that has problems and reaches a climax and has a resolution. For example Harry potter, he lives in a closet and has to deal with rude people just so he can overcome his fears and find his true self, as he goes to Hogwarts he figures out that he is the chosen one and he deals with many different problems so he can become what he has wanted to be, a normal person.

3. I believe they take an extra step to make their writing something that everyone will understand in their won way and won't have a problem with understanding, when I read Their Eyes Were Watching God it was a south-based book about a young girl who was forced to get married at an early age and move off a lot of unwanted places to be with the ones she were in love with at the time. During the entire book the dialogue was very difficult, starting at the beginning of the book I really didn't understand a lot but during the middle of the book I started to understand what was going on and how it was going on. So with that being said, I think it's good sometimes to have some dialogue that may be confusing and slang.

4. I think that authors take simple steps like making a character that relates to the reader in simple, different ways and things they can know the character feels when certain situations occur. Another way I think is because sometimes the author uses sad ways to pull the reader in like for example if the character got pregnant and couldn't take care of it and had to give it up for adoption. Would be a great way, because then it almost seems like the reader gets attached to the character by the things they had to go through.

So my topic is Birth Control and I'm not really sure what stage birth control would go under because it could be adult hood and adolesense. But I think it will be better under adolesense because a lot of people are bias about whether it should be avaliable to teenagers and other help that for example Planned Parent Hood helps with.

Right now I believe there are a lot of stories about how Planned Parent Hood's services aren't the best thing and people are upset with what they do and how they carry their services. I think birth control is a great service because it gives females optons and Planned Parent Hood offers great services and they give you a great opportunity. Here is one story about Planned Parent Hood and birth control. In this link in 1968 Pope Paul VI argued that it is wrong to prevent a human being from being born. Birth control has been around since 1900 B.C in Egypt according to I believe that for a preventable medicine to be around for so long that people have not had problems with is amazing because it takes courage for people who believe birth control is a way out because they have to deal with parents who might be upset about their daughters getting services at Planned Parent Hood. There are many times that birth control and Planned Parent Hood has took the heat many times for doing what they feel is right.

Birth Control has been around for a long time and it has helped a lot of people all around the world, there are a lot of people who believe it doesn't help or either it's not right ot have.

I want a big office, I like the excitement of everyone walkign around talking and acting as if they were busy. I like to be alone sometimes, just because I choose to not have people around me that could possibly distract me. I actually don't want to work with animals even though I love them and enjoy being around them I just choose to work with humans. I like to help people a lot and my ideal job is to be a pyschologist at an abuse hospital, because certain people who have been through serious situations can relate more than someone who hasn't.

I think I am capable of pretty much everything and I can put myself in a situation and will be able to incorparate certain skills I have to get my work done and stuff. I think certain skills I can offer to school, work or just about anywhere are the capability to be serious when needed. But I can offer that smile when needed, I am a great person who can sit down and listen to anything someone would have to say.

Well over the summer I worked with a magazine called The Chocolate Voice Magazine, which started out in Arizona in 2007 and during that time I designned articles for the magazine and interviewed an actress by the name of CiCi Foster. It was a completly different experience for me because I never imagined myself working for something so serious, i learned a lot about being professional and knowing when to have fun. i really enjoyed my time and I would love to do it again. I actually was thinking about doing my interniship there.

James Madison

Prosecuting
James Madison was the author of the Declaration of Independence, was born March 16, 1751 and died June 28, 1836. "No state can deny any person in jurisdiction" he says when asked by Noah. He also says 1,000's of immigrants have traveled here through Elis Island back in the day and now it's a different story. Now they are coming from all over. He mentions many different quotes from the Constitution(4th, 5th and 14th amendment).

Defense
Erica mentions a quote by James Madison about illegal immigrants, " If you are not here legally we have the right to remove you!" -James Madison(Earlier time). "Yes, I said that but I mean we can remove someone not legal from the United Sates but we will not go off racially profiling people by the way they look." said James Madison. He also said that if he could write the law, he would include no racial profiling!

Eric Holder

Prosecuting
Eric Holder is the U.S. attorney General, he gives advice and answers questions when asked by people of the Government. When the Government filled a lawsuit against Jane Bruea on July 6, 2010 he did not read the law so he would only know about the case by what people have told him. He thinks that the law is violating amendments 4,5 and 14, life, liberty and property and the Supremacy law. He thinks the state laws must abide by the federal laws and Constitution. He says the congress have the power over border, so if Jane thinks she can appose that rule then she is wrong. He seems to think that the passing of California's 187 bill is similar to Arizona's SB1070 law in a few ways.

Defense

He state he doesn't believe the law is necessarily racist he just feels they could state it in a Different way and try not to make it seem like they are racially profiling. He does mention filling a second law on Arizona, but the jury starts to think why file a second law if you supposedly see anything about the law being racist.



Raul Rialva

Prosecuting

He mentions a few times an organization called Operation Wetback, which wanted to help remove one million illegal immigrants from the united states. He was born three years after his parents immigrated to the United States. He mentioned a young lady by the name of Maria who was thrown to the ground by six officers for supposedly not having a valid I.D. and for forging someone's identity, she suffered a broken arm and was not received medical attention until 20 hours later. In the end the truth came out and Maria was actually telling the truth and was set free. He states the Jim Crow laws. "If we can fight Jim Crow we can fit again!"

Defense

Raul was accused of boycotting Arizona which was causing a decrease in Arizona's economy, but he fights back saying with the help and attention on this law it will do damage but will be cleaned up fast enough for Arizona to be back on track. He does say the law is racially profiling people for the way they look, but immigrants do need to get legal documentation.



Jane Bruea

Defense
Jane is the governor of Arizona, she was the one who signed SB1070. She believed the federal government was not doing there job and she had to take the stand to make the people of Arizona happy and do what's right. She said Arizona does NOT have a border fence like California and Texas do. She says there is about 80 miles of land which keep Mexico and Arizona apart, there is a fence but it's small enough for a toddler to climb over. (See picture above)

Prosecuting
Many people think the law is about racially profiling someone who an officer can THINK is an illegal immigrant. Well first she says someone has to commit a crime and if they do not have the proper identification and they:
-Have poor English
-Portray nervousness
-Wearing layers of clothing
-Wearing baggy clothes
-Sees people walking in a straight line
Then they are profiled as an illegal immigrant. She goes on to say this is not racially profiling but the jury sees this as being the best way to racially profile. She does believe that illegal immigration will never be a permanent solution but there are little things that officers can do to prevent it. She goes on to say that since this law have been announced the crime rate has gone down, so the lawyers think is she implying that immigrants are the only people in Arizona committing crimes? "Enforcing this bill will stop crime and then will have more tourists because no one wants to go somewhere they don't feel safe. Jane does mention that she was NOT voted by the people to be governor nor did the people of Arizona vote for this law. " Since I have passed the law my approving rate has went up to 48%." Jane says. "So does that mean 52% doesn't approve?" Noah asks. She said she feels that if the people of Arizona did not feel she was doing her job then they would be complaining. She also mentions how she feels that illegal immigrants take our tax dollars by going to hospitals, letting their kids go to our school and taking our jobs.

DAY TWO:

Jane Bruea

Prosecuting
As prosecution goes on with their cross examination, Jane still thinks that state laws should override federal laws because the federal government doesn't always know what's going on. Prosecution asks Jane what she thinks an illegal immigrant looks like. She answers " I can't define what they look like, but there are certain ways they can be portrayed." She goes on to say she thinks immigration is a national problem and it's the federal governments job to take care of that but since they can't she will.



John McCain

Defense
John McCain is the senator of Arizona, he does support SB1070, he thinks that this bill will discourage aliens to enter the United States illegally. He doesn't see a problem with immigrants he just feels if you want to come to America then you should wait in line and get your legal documentation. He talked about the Ten Point Border Plan which he and John Kyle organized to combat aliens.

Prosecution
"They should not be treated like Unites State citizens because they break the federal law." - John McCain He says he believes that illegal immigrants do cause problems, they might not be the majority of the crime but they are still here illegally committing crimes they should not be committing. He says he believes the federal government is suing Arizona because it interferes with federal law, when in all actuality it doesn't. He uses the example of gangs and how if they look a certain way and are dressed a certain way and look suspicious then officers have the right to take that into their hands and make a decision.

Kenneth L. Collings

Defense
Kenneth was a sheriff in Arizona until he was shot dean in 1988. He died trying to arrest two illegal immigrants, he believes that if the borders were secure and i f there was a law like this before then he would still be alive. He is asked to define concurrent enforcement and he answers "It's when the federal and state share power." He says that when an officer thinks someone is committing a crime they do have the right to take them in for questioning.

Prosecution
Noah states that in his death report they just mention the men being Mexico natives, so no one states them being illegal immigrants. It was another assumption. He says that if a person commits a crime, doesn't have proper identification and doesn't speak English well then they will be labeled as an illegal immigrant and taken in for questioning.

Closing statements were presented and at the end of this mock trial my mind was definitely changed because I din;t realize both sides of the case and as I did, I just assumed that Arizona was wrong. After this trial I do believe that Arizona has some truth and good evidence to why they did what they did and after hearing their side anyone would have to understand that. Both sides did a very good job of getting information, evidence and witnesses to plead their case and try to explain in their best ways to the jury why they are right.

I was left with a few questions and comments:
-Why can't Arizona just build a fence hire officers to secure and move on?
-The prosecuting side needed to clarify a little more.
-I would of liked more clarification about the actual law, like someone reading parts of the law so the jury could of had a better understanding.

Well that's it.

Guthrie, Kentucky a place where races are separated and you are forbidden to step out of your boundaries, on January 14, 1995 that was changed. A young white man by the name of Micheal Westerman was shot and killed for riding around in a mostly black neighborhood with the confederate flag whipping on the back of his truck, a few young black guys saw him before in their neighborhood asking black people if they wanted to have some chicken and go swimming. Stories have been passed generations to generations about white people not liking black people and this generalization that people of different races have to stay on different sides of the line.
Hannah Westerman (Micheal’s wife) left alone with twins and hatred against the people who left her with what she has to live with for the rest of her life, “They got what they deserved-well, they deserved to die.” Hannah has to deal with the hurtful pain of looking in the closet and not seeing Micheal’s clothes or looking at their twins and seeing Micheal’s face. But there is something that just doesn’t make any sense, I could understand that any wife who just lost their husband would be mad but it seems like there is a little more to this flag then people seem. She said many times “The flag was red, the truck was red. They matched.” But it seems like everywhere they go white people are going to mention the flag and its meaning so I’m pretty sure that Micheal has heard about the flag and what it meant many times. There were also some allegations about someone screaming “nigger” outside of Micheal’s car, but Hannah testified saying that never happened and they lied. Were their witnesses around? What really happened?
Freddie Morrow (The shooter) grew up with a single mother in the descent part of Chicago. Then after his mom lost her job they were forced to move were they could afford to have a roof over their heads and not have to be on the streets. Since the move Freddie’s mother (Cynthia Batie) started to realize a change in Freddie from the nights of coming in late to the mysterious girls talking about how Freddie got them pregnant and other people Cynthia had to deal with, Cynthia sent Freddie off to Guthrie to shape him up. When Freddie arrived in Guthrie everything was fine he met a nice girl and started to attend church with her family, and then he came face-to-face with a bad group on the other side of town that wasn’t there to help him. On January 14, 1995 he was going to do something that would get him locked up in a cage like a bird for the rest of his life, one of his friends Damien Daren told him about this racist white guy that needed to be taken care of. “BOOM” instantly a life was taken.
There was so many different about what really happened, what started this? Who started this?
